Wyoming team member saves a life
Accepting award

Jonathan is accustomed to thinking about safety in his position as a gas operations manager in Casper, Wyoming, but he didn’t expect to have to use his first-aid training skills to assist another member of his Five Trails Rotary Club last November.

While having lunch before the meeting began, a female member of the club seated at another table indicated to others she was choking. The group sprang to action, with several people near her performing abdominal thrusts in an attempt to dislodge the obstruction. Having no success, the group asked Jonathan to attempt the maneuver, given that he was taller than the others and would have more leverage to assist the choking victim. With only one attempt the item was dislodged and the woman was immediately able to breathe easily.

On Feb. 24 the Casper Police Department recognized Jonathan for his efforts with a Life-Saving Award, bestowing upon him a plaque and gratitude from the Rotary member, the City of Casper and the community at large. Jonathan’s family was in attendance to see him honored.

As Jonathan’s experience proves, annual first-aid training and refreshers are a valuable resource for employees to use at work and elsewhere. Congratulations to Jonathan for saving a life!
