Val Simpson, regional manager of Community Affairs & Corporate Citizenship, recently earned a certificate in Corporate Citizenship Leadership through Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship.

Val joined our company 12 years ago. In her current role, she leads our corporate foundation and the fundraising efforts supporting our annual Season of Giving, which benefits close to 50 United Ways across our footprint and our internal charity Black Hills Cares. Our corporate citizenship team also supports the grant-making processes managed by our community affairs team, the Volunteer Tracker and Volunteer of the Year processes, as well as our tree-planting efforts in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation.

The corporate citizenship leadership program brings together seasoned executives with at least five years of direct corporate citizenship experience and responsibility. Participants focus on aligning citizenship efforts to corporate strategy, increasing employee engagement and improving communications and personal leadership skills to lead teams and colleagues to better serve our business and our communities.

Since 1985, the Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship has been helping organizations align ESG objectives and business goals to create a more sustainable and prosperous future for all.  Housed within the Carroll School of Management at Boston College, the Center for Corporate Citizenship is a membership-supported organization dedicated to advancing the field of corporate citizenship, combing the most valuable aspects of a professional network and resources of a leading academic institution for 500+ member companies each year. We have been a member of the Center for Corporate Citizenship for five years.

We partner with our communities and customers, providing the kind of energy that fuels those areas and the lives of those we serve. Feel free to share the stories and photos. Follow us on FacebookInstagram, LinkedInTwitter, YouTube, and Pinterest for more!
