Leaders bond over toys in Iowa

Extended Leadership Team (ELT) meetings bring together senior leadership, managers and supervisors to share ideas, network and learn. Team building is another important aspect of good leadership – and working together on a community project proved to be a great team-building opportunity for our Iowa leaders.

Kerri Harvey, senior administrative assistant in Grimes, Iowa, has long dreamed of having the senior leadership team build bikes and dollhouses for Angel Tree projects across Iowa Gas territory. At the recent ELT meeting in Iowa, group members split into 15 teams to assemble 11 bicycles and four dollhouses which will be distributed among the eight districts in Iowa.

The group performed safety and quality assembly checks on the bicycles to ensure they were all in good working condition for donation. Dollhouse assembly proved to be much more challenging, with many little pieces and lengthy directions, but the bicycle building teams eagerly jumped in to lend a helping hand!

“It was incredible to see the teams, some of whom were meeting for the first time, work together and how proud they were of the completed projects,” Kerri said as she surveyed the finished toys. “I’m so thankful to everyone for help in building the items that will provide some smiles and make children happy at the holidays.”

Angel Tree, a project of the Salvation Army, provides holiday toys for children from low-income families.

Well done team!
