Energy Saving Trees distributed in South Dakota

On May 8, teams at Black Hills Energy service centers in Rapid City, Custer and Sturgis – all in South Dakota – helped give away trees through the Energy Saving Trees program.

In partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation, Black Hills Energy distributed 200 trees to families and organizations including The Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity and the City of Upton, Wyoming.

What’s the impact? According to the Arbor Day Foundation, trees that are properly placed around buildings can reduce air conditioning needs by 30 percent and save between 20 and 50 percent on energy needed for heating.

In addition to saving energy, planting trees has a broader impact by cleaning our air and water and supporting wildlife.

Each tree came with planting instructions, safe digging information and big smiles from our crew!

We partner with our communities and customers, providing the kind of energy that fuels those areas and the lives of those we serve. Feel free to share the stories and photos. Follow us on FacebookInstagram, LinkedInTwitter, YouTube, and Pinterest for more!
