Employees visit Nebraska capitol
Nebraska employees at state capitol

Almost 30 Black Hills Energy employees attended this year’s “Day at the Capitol” in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Nebraska Governmental Affairs Manager Jill Becker welcomed the group and gave an update on this session’s legislation impacting the company and Black Hills Energy customers, including energy choice legislation, damage prevention efforts and eminent domain proposals.

Sen. Jana Hughes, R-Seward, spoke with the group about her priority bills and the challenges she has faced as a first-year senator. Nebraska Chamber of Commerce & Industry President Bryan Slone and Alex Reuss, the Nebraska chamber’s executive vice president of legislation and policy, discussed the history of Nebraska’s Constitution and current chamber legislative initiatives. Topics included workforce challenges, potential efforts regarding immigration reform and the impact of term limits.

After watching floor debate and being recognized by the senators on the legislative floor, the group received a tour of the Nebraska Supreme Court and Nebraska Court of Appeals with Wendy Wussow, clerk of the court. Attendees finished the day with lunch at the governor’s residence with other lobbyists and legislative staff.
