Creating 811 awareness in Arkansas

In addition to routine contractor trainings, Arkansas damage prevention coordinators rolled out its education trailer for three large outreach events in National Safe Digging Month.

By setting up an 811 training with Nabholz Construction Corp., which recently topped $1.1 billion in revenue and is the primary contractor for the new Walmart home office, the Arkansas team was able to interact with many large-scale subcontractors including APAC, Crossland Construction, TLS Inc. and Arco Excavation & Paving at the 350-acre construction site in Bentonville.

The team also set up a public outreach event using the impactful videos on the trailer and passing out company items on a busy Saturday morning as Rogers-area residents were buying trees, plants and other spring project supplies at Lowe’s.

Then they interacted with Northwest Arkansas fire chiefs and county fire marshals over two days through a company sponsorship for the NWA Metro Chiefs conference. Having a vendor booth and our damage prevention trailer provided the opportunity to have impactful conversations with fire protection leaders that are sure to help reduce hits per thousand.

Arkansas government affairs additionally helped to create awareness of safe digging practices by joining Arkansas 811, the Arkansas Public Service Commission, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration and our industry partners as Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders proclaimed April as National Safe Digging Month.
