Integrity programs
Capital project strategies aimed at reducing wildfire risk and improving reliability.
Distribution System Integrity Program (DSIP)
Our DSIP is a proactive approach to distribution improvements and modernization through capital investments. It provides a programmatic approach that supports project identification and prioritization activities. Key objectives of the program include reducing wildfire risk while improving the safety and reliability of our electric systems.
Wildlife retrofits
Wildlife interactions and the potential for wildlife caused ignitions represent a challenge for electric utilities from both a reliability and risk mitigation perspective. We are a member of the Avian Power Line Interaction Committee (APLIC) and in 2011, we adopted an Avian Protection Plan (APP) which provides structure and procedures to facilitate our compliance with applicable avian and wildlife laws, regulations and permits. Our teams have executed targeted wildlife retrofit projects and construct all new facilities to standards that support wildlife interaction avoidance.
Underground projects
As of Jan. 1, 2023, approximately 25% of our electric distribution system line miles consisted of underground construction. Our teams have replaced overhead lines with underground cable as part of our wildfire risk mitigation activities. The number of underground distribution line miles will continue to grow as undergrounding is a primary consideration for growth and integrity projects across our service territories.
