Raising awareness of spinal cord injuries in Wyoming
walk

Wyodak Mine employees Linda, Jenni and Virginia recently completed a 5K run/walk in Gillette, Wyoming, to raise awareness of spinal cord injury.

September is National Spinal Cord Injury Awareness Month. The run/walk in Gillette was also a fundraiser for Danny Keiderling, a local welding instructor who was paralyzed in an ATV accident. Throughout his career Danny has worked hard to educate youth in skilled trades. He hopes to continue to have an impact in his community by making the 5K run/walk an annual event.

According to the Mayo Clinic, the most common causes of spinal cord injuries in the United States are motor vehicle accidents, falls, acts of violence such as gunshot wounds, sports and recreation injuries and diseases such as cancer and arthritis. To reduce your risk of spinal cord injury, always wear a seat belt, check water depth before diving, prevent falls, always wear recommended safety gear when playing sports, and don’t drink and drive or ride with someone who’s been drinking.
