Valentine project spreads love to South Dakota nursing home residents
team

Valentine’s Day is a time to show kindness and care to those we love. Oftentimes, we forget about our senior citizens and people in assisted living facilities.

Years ago, KSLT Power 107.1, a radio station in Rapid City, South Dakota, started a Valentine’s Day outreach program. Each year they ask listeners to create heartfelt, thoughtful Valentine’s Day cards that are then distributed to nursing homes and assisted living facilities throughout their five-state listening area.

This year Black Hills Energy-South Dakota Electric Ambassadors and employees partnered with KSLT to create and collect Valentines, as much of their listening area overlaps our service territories. With a willingness to help and no artistic skills required, our employees rose to the challenge and created more than 100 individual notes of love and well wishes to be delivered to the elderly.

Many employees crafted cards at home to bring in, and even the Horizon Point Day Care Center kids joined in on the fun! When the cards were delivered to KSLT, the Black Hills Energy-South Dakota Electric Ambassador team met with KSLT staff to learn about their mission to provide listeners with positive, uplifting music and see firsthand the impact that a few moments of our time can make on others.

We appreciate everyone who took the time to brighten a stranger’s day! We love our employees, all year-round.

We partner with our communities and customers, providing the kind of energy that fuels those areas and the lives of those we serve. Feel free to share the stories and photos. Make sure to tag us on FacebookInstagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.
