Nebraska welding students learn from demonstrations
demo

We have a longtime partnership with Southeast Community College (SCC) in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Our company offers scholarships for SCC students and works closely with the SCC Welding Technology Program. The Black Hills Corp Foundation was also a founding donor of The Career Academy, which is a partnership between SCC and Lincoln Public Schools.

The Career Academy is an innovative program that provides both academic and real-world experiences for juniors and seniors in Lincoln, including dual credit courses.

Dean, who works in our Lincoln office, has been leading demonstrations at The Career Academy and SCC for many years. Recently he was joined by Dillon, Austin and Jesse for a welding demonstration for high school students at The Career Academy.

Dillon and Austin, both welders for Black Hills Energy, brought in test pieces and helped explain company procedures and what we expect of welders when they complete testing.

“The school absolutely loves it when Black Hills Energy does this,” Dean said. “The instructors tell me that the students will talk about what they did and the discussion it creates in the classroom is incredible. It also gives me a chance to show pipeline PowerPoints and talk about how important safety is in the workplace.”

Lots of benefits to this collaboration!

We partner with our communities and customers, providing the kind of energy that fuels those areas and the lives of those we serve. Feel free to share the stories and photos. Make sure to tag us on FacebookInstagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.
