Donation goes to the dogs in South Dakota

By applying to become a Black Hills Energy Ambassador, our company employees have an opportunity to develop leadership skills by representing our company in their communities. Each ambassador is also given $500 to donate to a local non-profit organization.

For our Ambassador Kathy, a tax analyst in South Dakota, deciding where to spend that money wasn’t a problem.

“I have a passion for animals, so I chose the Humane Society of the Black Hills,” she said.

The Humane Society recently hosted its 7th annual “Wags & Waves” at the Jimmy Hilton Municipal Pool in Rapid City, South Dakota. At the end of the summer, people can bring their dogs to the pool and, for a suggested $5 donation, let them play in the water for as long as they want. The pool is then drained for the season.

“It was a perfect day as temperatures were in the upper 90s!” Kathy said. “My $500 was used as a matching donation and nearly $7,000 was raised. Just wonderful!”

Wonderful is right! Thank you, Kathy, for being an ambassador and for making a difference in your community!

We partner with our communities and customers, providing the kind of energy that fuels those areas and the lives of those we serve. Feel free to share the stories and photos. Make sure to tag us on FacebookInstagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.
