Colorado collaboration in spotlight
austin

One of our environmental professionals recently spoke to members of the American Council of Engineering Companies about a collaborative project to clean up a former coal-fired power plant site in Colorado.

Our senior environmental professional, Austin, was a presenter at the council’s annual conference held recently in Colorado. He was invited to discuss how Black Hills Energy utilized Colorado’s voluntary cleanup program to remediate a former coal-fired power plant in Canon City, Colorado, and facilitate redevelopment of the site.

The 22-acre site at Canon City borders the Arkansas River at the city’s western edge. The City of Canon City has a master plan that includes redeveloping the property into a river-facing community park with a river boat launch, picnic area, nature trails and a campground.

We are partnering with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment to make the property suitable for the proposed use. By making the extra effort to ensure the former power plant site can become a community asset once again, we aim to demonstrate our company values and commitment as an engaged community partner.

We partner with our communities and customers, providing the kind of energy that fuels those areas and the lives of those we serve. Feel free to share the stories and photos. Make sure to tag us on FacebookInstagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.
