8.11K race raises awareness about safe digging in Arkansas
Winners of the 8.11k race in Arkansas

At 8:11 a.m. Aug. 13, more than 100 runners lined up to compete in the second annual Call Before You Dig 8.11K, in Fayetteville, Arkansas.

The Fayetteville race raises awareness of the importance of digging safely — reminding the community to dial 811 before starting a project. Black Hills Energy, along with other local vendors, helped make the event possible through booth sponsorships, equipment donations and volunteer efforts. Thirteen Black Hills Energy employees volunteered more than 60 hours collectively to ensure this event was a success.

All proceeds from the race went to the Construction Angels, a nonprofit that exists for families who have lost a loved one as a result of a work-related accident. Their goal is to be an immediate source of assistance through grief counselling and financial aid.

Thanks to the city of Fayetteville and the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks for the use of their facilities and their partnership in this event.

We partner with our communities and customers, providing the kind of energy that fuels those areas and the lives of those we serve. Feel free to share the stories and photos. Make sure to tag us on FacebookInstagram, LinkedIn and Twitter.
