Assisting those who assist others
volunteer coordinator for the senior lunch program

In October, while on a routine service request at the Gering Senior Citizen Center in Gering, Nebraska, our local tech noticed that the volunteer coordinator for the senior lunch program was struggling to secure drivers after a short-notice cancellation. Our technician wanted to help and while his schedule was full that day, he suggested volunteer coordinator Lucille Cooper call our local office. And that is how a new relationship began.

Lucille contacted Scott, operations manager in Nebraska, and explained the situation. Scott could sense her passion for making sure these folks were taken care of — for many of them, it is the only meal they will have all day. They count on it.

After checking work schedules and making a few calls to area techs, the team was able to adjust schedules so a technician could assist. The entire team was ready to do whatever they could to help. Some techs took on extra work orders to free up one of the team members. Since that day, it has become an almost daily routine with several local techs taking turns driving the delivery routes during lunch time.

It’s a great program and our team members have been excited to participate. They have stated that the seniors they deliver to are always happy to see them. And Lucille is always extremely grateful and relieved when we help her out, especially on short notice.

Way to go Scottsbluff/Gering team!
