In the days before Thanksgiving, the Burlington School District in eastern Colorado had one more thing to be thankful for – a significant energy efficiency rebate from Black Hills Energy.
Colorado Gas Energy Efficiency Coordinator, Amy Fiala delivered a check for more than $50,000 to the school board, who were so pleased they asked to borrow the large presentation check to recognize the donation at their meeting that evening. The district had identified several factors leading to unnecessarily high utility costs, and completed major efficiency upgrades to heating and cooling systems in their elementary, middle and high schools.
Energy efficiency measures implemented included:
• Energy recovery ventilators
• High efficiency roof-top HVAC units
• Make-up air units
• New building automation systems
• Destratification fans in their school gymnasiums
The upgrades not only qualified for energy efficiency rebates through Black Hills Energy, but are expected to save the district $16,470 in natural gas costs annually.
