eBill paperless billing terms and conditions
During the Black Hills Energy* eBill registration process, you must read and accept the following Terms and Conditions in order to register for Black Hills Energy’s eBill.
*Black Hills Energy is the trade name under which various utility affiliates of Black Hills Corporation conduct regulated electric or natural gas business. NOTE: After review of the eBill Terms and Conditions, if you want to continue to receive the monthly paper billing statement through the U.S. Mail, then please do not enroll in Black Hills Energy eBill.
Black Hills Energy eBill allows customers to stop receiving paper billing statements and to view your Black Hills utility bill online. This paperless billing option is available only to customers who have registered for Black Hills Energy eBill. By using the eBill service, you agree to the following Terms and Conditions. If you do not accept these Terms and Conditions, then Black Hills Energy is unable to provide the eBill service.
Your continued use of Black Hills Energy’s eBill service represents an ongoing acceptance of the Terms and Conditions, which may be changed from time to time.
Please read the following Terms and Conditions carefully. Violation of these Terms and Conditions may terminate your future participation in the eBill service.
1. User ID and password
For eBill, you will need to set up a User ID and Password. Black Hills Energy is not responsible for your User ID and Password. Because you are responsible for all activities that occur using your eBill account, you are responsible for keeping your User ID and Password confidential. Black Hills Energy is not liable for any actions, claims, costs, damages, or expenses arising from a lost, misplaced or stolen Password. If you have forgotten your Password or want to change your Password for any reason, you have the option of having the Password reset online through your account. Please notify Black Hills Energy if any unauthorized use of your eBill account occurs.
You agree not to give or make available your password or other means to access your customer account to any unauthorized individuals. You are responsible for all payments you authorize using the eBill service. If you permit other persons to use the eBill service or your password or other means to access your customer account, then you are responsible for transactions that they authorize. In order to revoke their authority to use your password, you must change your password.
2. Notices and information accuracy
Black Hills Energy will use its best efforts to present all of your electronic bills promptly. In addition to notification on your online account page, Black Hills Energy will send email notification to the email address registered on your account. It is your sole responsibility to ensure that this email is received, and that the eBill information is accurate. In the event you do not receive the email notification, then it is your responsibility to sign in to your customer account, to check on the delivery of new electronic bills, and to pay the eBill on or before its due date.
It is your responsibility to update your email address for eBill notices via Black Hills Energy’s website or to contact Black Hills Energy’s Customer Support department to notify Black Hills Energy immediately if your email address or other account information changes. You understand that if emails are returned as undeliverable, Black Hills Energy reserves the right to return your billing to paper statements. You may re-enroll at any time after correcting any email address errors.
Black Hills Energy periodically includes important Customer notices in its monthly billing statements, including, but not limited to, Customer notices that are required by law or a regulatory agency regarding changes in your service. By selecting the paperless bill option you understand and agree that those notices will be available to you only online, and can be found in your online bill under the section titled "Your Bill."
You agree to provide true and accurate information as requested in our account setup forms, including, but not limited to the obligation to update your banking information as needed to pay the eBill on a timely basis. You also agree not to misrepresent your identity.
3. Payment terms and conditions
THE BILL DATE AND THE PAYMENT DUE DATE IS THE SAME ONLINE AS WHEN YOU RECEIVE A PAPER STATEMENT. Your obligation to pay your Black Hills Energy bill by the due date is not altered or modified in any way by stopping your paper bill. Applicable late payment fees apply, and late payment notices will be sent through U.S. Mail. Applicable fees will be assessed against your utility account for any payment returned by your bank due to insufficient funds. If your account has a past due balance, you will still receive the electronic bill as well as a paper disconnect notice.
You are responsible for ensuring timely payment of all bills. Electronic copies of your last sixteen (16) months of delivered bills are available online. For bills older than sixteen (16) months, please send a request for those bills to Black Hills Energy by either email to customerservice@support.blackhillsenergy.com or contact customer service at 888-890-5554.
Any questions regarding charges on your bills should be directed to customer service at 888-890-5554.
4. Limitation of Liability
These terms and conditions do not supersede, modify or in any way mitigate a customer’s obligation to be bound by and comply with all applicable federal, state, or local laws, rules, regulations, tariffs, corporate policies, or other items governing and related to Black Hills Energy’s products and services to its customers.

BLACK HILLS CORPORATION BY AND THROUGH ITS VARIOUS CORPORATE AFFILIATES CONDUCTING BUSINESS UNDER THE TRADE NAME OF “BLACK HILLS ENERGY” PROVIDE EBILL™ “AS IS” WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, EXCEPT WHERE PROHIBITED BY LAW.
BLACK HILLS CORPORATION BY AND THROUGH ITS VARIOUS CORPORATE AFFILIATES CONDUCTING BUSINESS UNDER THE TRADE NAME OF “BLACK HILLS ENERGY” ASSUMES NO RESPONSIBILITY WITH RESPECT TO ANY CUSTOMER USE OF EBILL.
BLACK HILLS CORPORATION BY AND THROUGH ITS VARIOUS CORPORATE AFFILIATES CONDUCTING BUSINESS UNDER THE TRADE NAME OF “BLACK HILLS ENERGY”SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY SPECIAL, INCIDENTAL, INDIRECT, PUNITIVE, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES OR FOR THE LOSS OF PROFIT, REVENUE, OR DATA WHICH ARISE FROM OR IS RELATED TO EBILL OR ANY CLAIMS OR DAMAGES RELATED TO ONLINE BILLING BY BLACK HILLS ENERGY.
CUSTOMER HEREBY AGREES TO INDEMNIFY AND HOLD BLACK HILLS CORPORATION BY AND THROUGH ITS VARIOUS CORPORATE AFFILIATES CONDUCTING BUSINESS UNDER THE TRADE NAME OF “BLACK HILLS ENERGY” HARMLESS FROM ANY ACTIONS, CLAIMS, DAMAGES, LIABILITIES, OR LOSSES ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE CUSTOMER’S USE OF EBILL.
Customer agrees that Black Hills Corporation by and through its various corporate affiliates conducting business under the trade name of Black Hills Energy will not be liable to the customer or any third party for any revision or discontinuation of the eBill service.
Black Hills Energy makes no warranty that the eBill service will be uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free, or that the information obtained from use of the service will be accurate. Furthermore, Black Hills Energy does not warrant that errors in the technology will be corrected.
5. Discontinuing service - Account balances
A customer may discontinue the eBill service at any time. If the eBill account is canceled or discontinued, then Black Hills Energy will issue the customer a paper bill via U.S. mail on the customer’s next scheduled bill date, which should occur within 45 days of the Customer’s discontinuation of eBill.
NOTE: Customer must pay the final eBill (i.e., paperless bill) on the due date even if the eBill service is terminated.
A customer can check the customer’s current utility account balance at www.blackhillsenergy.com. Black Hills Energy reserves the right to terminate access to any account(s) viewed in the eBill service at any time. Black Hills Energy also reserves the right to change any terms or conditions of the eBill service at any time.
6. Governing Law
This Agreement shall be construed under the laws of the state in which you receive your service from Black Hills Energy. You should refer to our Privacy Policy which is available online at www.blackhillsenergy.com/privacy-policy. Black Hills Energy complies with all applicable laws and regulations governing disclosure of customer information to others. Customer is hereby provided notice that Black Hills Energy is required to share certain customer information under Confidentiality Agreements or Protective Orders issued by regulatory agencies governing Black Hills Energy. Please print a copy of these Terms and Conditions for your records.
7. Changes to terms and conditions
Black Hills Corporation by and through its various corporate affiliates conducting business under the trade name of Black Hills Energy may from time to time change any of the Terms and Conditions or even discontinue the eBill option in accordance with any and all applicable governing laws and approval of governing regulatory bodies when required for such changes.
